It was a mad traffic morning for me. It was jam her and there. Too many cars going towards the same direction and that direction was Central Business District. Actually want to meet up with my friend for breakfast but end up rushing down the breakfast down our throat outside our company. I was feeling very nervous and excited as I don’t know whether I am up to the task or not. I was worried that I might be kind of stupid or blur on my first day of work.
When this lady brought another student from NP and me down to our department, I was feeling more nervous and excited. When we were introduced to the accounts department’s accounts director, Ms Christina, I felt better as I find her ok and not that super duper fierce type as I first thought of her. I was given this room to do my work which is for manager position. Felt for a moment that I was a manager or something. Soon my work starts to pile up. This lady, Evelyn, was given the task to teach me how to do the GST. Basically it is to double confirm that the entries in the computer system tally with this particular company’s tax invoice. I only managed to complete until 50% of my work as I was also given another task to do bank reconciliation using MYOB. I never learned MYOB in my poly modules before because I was given exemption for FFA. But lucky this guy, Jun Hao, taught me how to use it. For the bank reconciliation, I got to make sure that the entries in MYOB are entered correctly by comparing with this particular company’s bank statements. I got to do for the whole year of 2006. I only managed to complete until June 2006. I still got another 6 more months of bank reconciliation to go.
I have learned about the GST zero-rated charge to companies that are not in Singapore.
Though I have already knew about this when I learned it during one of the modules in NP but it was a good refresher memory for me. It was also my first time using MYOB today which I never used before. This was a very good learning experience for me as I can see the difference in using MYOB and ACCPAC. Overall, I am satisfied with my work today. Hopefully there will be more new things for me to learn later on.
